Сюжет кино: DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) - A CBS46 Investigation uncovered new information pertaining to a possible case of corruption.
“These documents prove that some mishap happened,” Former DeKalb County Employee Erica Williams said.
Erica shared details about her involvement in a campaign event for Commissioner Sharon Barnes Sutton while working for the county.
“We automatically feared that if we didn’t do it, we didn’t know what was going to happen to us,” Erica Williams said.
It has taken her four long years to feel comfortable about coming forward ;
“They were too afraid to say anything or not do what they were told for fear of losing their jobs,” Viola Davis with Restore DeKalb said.
In 2012, she and others working in the clerk’s office said they were approached by former chief of staff Morris Williams with an unusual directive.
“He was like, "I know I had you all sign a document saying that you wouldn’t participate in any campaigns during normal business hours, but Commissioner Sharon Barnes Sutton doesn’t have anybody else and I need you all to serve food.',” Erica Williams said.
She said they were instructed to work at Barnes-Sutton’s fundraiser at Mystery Valley Golf Club during county work hours, even though they were told to refrain from such activity two months ;
“Commissioner Sharon Barnes Sutton never addressed us, she never said anything to us personally or professionally about why we were there. She didn’t say go, you shouldn’t be ; She didn’t say anything,” Erica Williams said.
A couple of weeks later, Erica Williams said some concerned citizens sent an anonymous letter to commissioners pointing out the questionable activity.
“Morris Williams at that time wanted us to basically wanted us to complete a leave slip saying that we had taken annual time or that we had volunteered to work on her ; She’s not my commissioner so I wouldn’t have a reason to work on her campaign,” Erica Williams said.
Erica said she refused to sign the document and was later fired.
Morris Williams eventually resigned.
Sharon Barnes Sutton is still on the job.
“Not surprised at all, not surprised that she’s not been held ;Not surprised at ;It’s the way the county works,” Erica Williams said.
Records indicate that Morris Williams reimbursed the county for the hours worked at the fundraiser.
As for Barnes Sutton, she would not agree to an on camera interview, but told me over the phone she did not invite the employees to work at her event nor condone ; She also said she was told that the employees were there on personal ;
CBS46 received a statement from DeKalb District Attorney Robert James which says, “The District Attorney spoke with all witnesses including Mr. Williams and there was no evidence that Sharon Barnes Sutton coerced or asked anyone to work while on county ;
The DA went on to say that the actions of Morris Williams while he was employed by DeKalb County are still under investigation.
