Telling of the Shoes (2014)

Rating: Three and a Half Stars after two viewings. The Telling of the Shoes is an interesting little set piece that comes across as a filmed play. There's a lot of good actors in it, there's no actual plot, per se, it's really just a slow moving disaster film where the various personal apocalypses are revealed after a lot of drinking. (ProTip: You'll want to watch this film with a glass of merlot in hand).
On my first viewing it blew my drama fuse, however, I watched it again a few days later (via Amazon streaming) and found the payoff for the movie. There's a lot of lovely bits by all the actors going on in the first half of the movie that makes little sense if you haven't already seen it before but will appreciate on the second viewing. So if you're going to watch this movie, watch it twice.
So the good news is there is a payoff so the film but to get it you going to need to watch the movie twice. Bad news is there are some edits/photography in the third act of Warner and Chabert that are so odd they intrude on their 'moment' together, and throughout the film there are sound issues; some ADR time would have served this movie well. Finally, even with a second (or presumably third viewing) your drama fuse will be blown after the Warner/Chabert dénouement - so you almost don't care about the end result of the Brand/Dayne arc.
Bottomline: worth a rental, but keep your glass of merlot topped off.
