Soul of a Banquet (2014)

Сюжет кино: Nice documentary. I learned about Cecilia Chiang from watching "The Search for General Tso," in which they interview her and her son, who is incidentally the co-founder of PF Chang's (yes, "Chiang" became "Chang" - I think Chiang is the Shanghainese spelling). In that movie, the son did most of the talking, so I'm glad that Cecilia gets a chance to shine in this movie (her son is not featured at all in this one).
No, it is not like Food Network - which I really liked. As someone who has cooked in restaurants, I found the cooking scenes very engrossing and was glad that there was no dialogue. I had no idea that Cecilia is buddies with Alice Waters, Ruth Reichl, Marion Cunningham - all the powerhouse names of Western and European cuisine in America. So I loved learning about her life and her impact on Chinese food in America. Being an American-born Chinese myself, maybe this movie speaks to me in ways that would speak to someone who isn't of Chinese descent or isn't interested in cooking. Though, if you are neither, then why are you watching this? LOL
